The Eco Club is passionate about Global Citizens Education.
We meet weekly to explore environmental issues that effect our local community and the wider world.
Our activities include making posters to encourage people to think ‘green’, exploring the global goals through our project work, we have watched some interesting documentaries and we have participated in a number of national competitions and initiatives including:
- In 2019 and 2020 we ran Take1 Week in the school. Our teachers taught us about the SDGs in our lessons, we learned facts about the ‘SDG of the Day’ and we did a Kahoot quiz to test our knowledge at the end of the week!
- We run Climate Action Week each year! We have a ‘Tip of the Day’ and run Kahoot quizzes and poster competitions
- In 2019 we were one of five national finalists in the Environmental Protection Agency’s ‘The Story of Your Stuff’ competition. We are currently on some entries for the 2021 competition!
- In 2019 we got to the final showcase of ECO-UNESCO’s Young Environmentalist Award in the National Convention Centre. Our project focused on SDG 13 ‘Climate Action’. We researched the level of traffic in our school community and the environmental impacts of this.
- In 2020 we attended the climate strike in Dublin City
- This year we introduced reusable KCC water bottles. We sold them to students and staff at lunchtime. They have been really popular!
We are currently working towards our first Green Flag for ‘Litter and Waste’.
