Camogie training started in Kingswood Community College in September 2018 with a dedicated group of students from 1st and 2nd year. On February 2nd 2019, the team represented Kingswood Community College in the school’s very first camogie match. The team competed at U14 Divison C and showed superb teamwork, skill, and dedication throughout the season.

In September 2019, the team returned to training with 24 talented players from 1st to 3rd year, who committed to training every Wednesday (even on the miserable winter days in December and January). They faced a tough group in the Junior C Division with losses against Coláiste Íosagáin and Gaelcholáiste an Phiarsigh and wins against Loreto Beaufort and Our Lady’s Grove. Their dedication paid off, and less than a year after their first match, the U16 team had reached the Junior C Shield Final. They returned to Naomh Mearnóg (the scene of their first ever match), to face an extremely strong side, Loreto Beaufort, and the half time score left it all to play for with Kingswood leading by a goal.

There were strong performances across the pitch with players such as Sophie Palmer and Olivia Behan showing that they may be small but they are mighty while older players such Abbie Kennedy and Lauren Lee showed great leadership. Chloe Harding and Sarah Byrne took down anyone who attempted to make a move on goal while captain, Grace Ennis Heraghty made some impressive saves. The gruelling work put in by the entire team resulted in excellent scores from Jessica Martin and Emily Stoneham. The impressive display ended in a Kingswood win with the camogie team making Kingswood Community College history by bringing home the first piece of silverware.

The U14 season got off to a great start in March with the team winning their first match versus Coláiste Íosagáin. Unfortunately the season was cut short due the Covid-19 pandemic but they continued to maintain their fitness and work on their skills at home. It is clear that this passionate group of girls have an incredible future ahead.
